Abstract

The article was taken from a study entitled "Garbage as a Source of Livelihood: Critical Ethnography of
Scavengers as Subculture at TPA in Bali". The research was conducted with qualitative approach based on
critical theory. The research sites cover the TPA of Garbage (TPAS) in eight regencies in Bali and one
municipality. One of them is TPAS Bengkala. Informants were taken by purposive sampling and snowball. Data
were taken by interview technique, observation and document study. Data validity is used Triangulation Data.
Data analysis was done by qualitative descriptive technique. The result of the research shows that there are
various reasons for women to cultivate pig feed, namely the strength of market ideology pressure and various
accompanying ideals. Their work pattern is to sort and choose the waste that can be processed and used as pig
feed so that the waste diversion becomes rupiah to fulfill the need The article discusses: (1) the reasons for the
meaning and pattern of scavenging women in garbage collection as pig food; (2) the pattern of waste utilization as
pig food.
