Abstract

Poetry reading is a part of literary study to improve students' literary aptitude. Unfortunately, few students are able to read poetry. This study was conducted to investigate whether or not the video-based TANDUR learning method can enhance the poetry reading ability of the grade VIII A students of SMP Sila Dharma Denpasar. Data collection method made use test and observation and were analyzed by means of qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. It was found that the poetry reading ability of grade VIII A students of SMP Sila Dharma Denpasar was still low, represented by a figure of 63.68 in the pre-test. Therefore, the research was continued to cycle I by applying the video-based TANDUR learning method. The students looked excited, but in cycle I, the average score showed a figure of 73.45. It was continued to cycle II wherein the students’ poem reading ability was increased to 81.91.
