Abstract

Writing skill is a very important language skill in order to be able to communicate well with others. Unfortunately, many students are not able to express their ideas in writing. This is due to the low competence they have in writing.. The lack of learning motivation and interest to the material given by the lecturer is one cause of students’ low writing competence. This situation occured in the fourth semester majoring in English Language and Literature STIBA Saraswati Denpasar. Through the classroom action research conducted by the researcher, it was found that the students’ writing achievement on the initial reflection was only 61.83. This research was, then, started on cycle 1 by applying literary based learning with Formeaning Response strategy. The result of cycle 1 showed that the students’ writing achievement was 69.69, and there were only few students could reach the minimum criteria of completeness that was 75. Therefore, the research was continued to cycle 2. The result of cycle 2 showed that the students’ writing achievement was increased to 78.87 and most of the students could reach the minimum criteria of completeness. Last, through the questionnaires administered at the end of the cycle 2, it was also found that the students gave a good Response to the learning method applied.
