Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe an activity called Sabtu Literasi at SD N 3 Banjar Jawa and measure its effectiveness in improving students’ writing achievement. The present study was descriptive qualitative study. Data were gained from several resources, namely principal, teacher, students and administration staff; the setting of conducting Sabtu Literasi; and observation toward Sabtu Literasi. Data collection in the presents study was nonparticipant observational method, unstructured interview, and questionnaire. Data analysis, that is Miles and Huberman, includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of the research was Sabtu Literasi is one program to develop literacy culture conducted at SD N 3 Banjar Jawa. This activity is conducted from 11.30 to 12.30. Reading activity is done for 30 minutes and then the students retell the story they have read orally and in written. Based on the result of writing test, Sabtu Literasi could improve the students’ writing achievement.
